Sustainable Development Promotion Award for Students of Higher Education Institutions 

The Sustainable Development Promotion Award for Students of Higher Education Institutions (SDPA) aims to promote the concept of sustainable development (SD) to local undergraduate students and raise their awareness of the importance of SD; and to encourage them to organize projects for applying sustainable practices in daily lives and spreading the messages to their peers, families and the community. 

  • Who is eligible to compete for the SDPA?

    The SDPA is open to all existing full-time students enrolling in a local undergraduate programme of the higher education institutions in Hong Kong. Eligible students may compete on an individual or team basis.

  • What are the components of the SDPA?

    The competition consists of two phases:

    (I) Proposal Phase - submission of project proposals

    (II) Implementation Phase - implementation of the projects receiving awards in the Proposal Phase

    The best five proposals in the Proposal Phase will each be given the Proposal Award which comprises a cash prize of $3,000 and a certificate. All winners in the Proposal Phase are expected to implement their projects in the Implementation Phase. Each entry of Implementation Phase meeting the conditions as set out in the rules of competition will be given the Implementation Award which comprises another cash prize of $7,000 and a certificate. The entry which performs the best among the Implementation Award winners will be given the Outstanding Project Award which comprises another cash prize of $10,000 and a certificate.

  • Second Round of Sustainable Development Promotion Award for Students of Higher Education Institutions (launched in December 2017)

    A total of 12 entries were received. The following entries were selected for the grant of Proposal Award:

    The Outstanding Project Award was granted to the project "Criss Cross Country Parks".

    A prize presentation ceremony was held on 15 March 2019. The awardees gave brief presentations on their projects and shared with members of the Council for Sustainable Development and other participants their ideas and experience in running the projects.
