In his election manifesto, the Chief Executive has pledged to re-examine our environmental protection policy from the perspective of sustainable development, take effective measures to provide a high quality living environment for the community and build Hong Kong into a modern livable city. The HKSAR Government will also strive to devise a sustainable development policy framework taking into account social, environmental and economic concerns. These will be the guiding principles for the Environment Bureau in the coming years, and the objectives which colleagues and I will strive to accomplish with joint efforts.

Various aspects of environmental protection are closely related to our daily life. Your active participation is essential for the betterment of our environment. I take pleasure in enhancing community efforts on the environment front, with changes in personal behaviours for environmental sake. Challenges ahead on the environment are also related to the development at regional and even global levels. Hence not only will I pursue mobilization of the entire community for the environment, I will also work closely with green groups, academics, the Mainland government and international community, for making our home more livable and sustainable.
